Why I cloth diaper…

I know it’s become the trend to be more eco friendly. I’m not against that, but that definitely isn’t the reason why I made the switch. I was a pampers snob…nothing else touched my babies bottom…except once. That experience led to my daughter getting a chemical burn on her heiny. That’s when I officially started to wonder what I was really putting on my kiddo! Here’s something I came across today that made me flash back a year and a half ago!

Natural Diapers without Gel

WHAT IS THAT GEL STUFF?
Have you ever found yourself wiping shiny gel-like crystals off your baby’s bottom when changing a disposable diaper?

That gel is sodium polyacrylate, a super absorbent polymer used in disposable diapers. According to the Real Diaper Association, “This chemical can cause skin irritations and severe allergic reactions including vomiting, staph infections and fever.” Super absorbent polymers were banned from tampons when linked to toxic shock syndrome. If you have a disposable diaper handy, pour a bit of water or saline solution into the diaper and cut it open to see how this gel works.

Natural diapers absorb without gel. You can choose either cloth diapers, which absorb into the core of their spun fibers, or eco-brands of disposable diapers, which use paper pulp to absorb moisture. If massive amounts of disposable diaper waste in landfill concern you, paper diapers do not solve the problem.

In that case, cloth diapers are your best natural diapers–no gel required.

Cloth diapers absorb naturally

If you do not want put diapers with gel next to your baby’s skin, choose cloth diapers, which absorb naturally.

Any absorbent fabric will do the job, but natural fibers absorb the best. There are hemp and organic cotton diapers, and a variety of cloth diapers in fitted, contour, and prefold styles.

Natural fibers pull moisture into their sponge-like core without any need for petroleum-based gel. The surface of cotton attracts water, and the tiny tubes inside fill with water like a bunch of straws. Hemp is even stronger and more absorbent than cotton, adding natural antimicrobial properties and resistance to mold and mildew.

Both cotton and hemp make great natural diapers, without gel.

So that’s the reason why I chose to give cloth a try. Has she been in a sposie since…yes, but I’m cautious on what kind and for how long. I’m in no way trying to make anyone feel less mommy like. Every parent had the right to choose what’s right for there child. Just wanted to share the info! And yes…my hubby changes them too!=-)

Where’s my tiara?

I know I’ve been very MIA lately. Life’s been taking a lot of different turns lately, and I’ve just trying to go with it all! Charis is going to be three in a few more weeks!!! It seems like yesterday that I called Zak with the exciting news! Since then life’s been a bit of a blur. She’s brought us so much joy…and I’m sure this joy willed be added when The Lord leads us to another special little one (or two or three) meant to be in our family!

Our little lady requested quite the party this year…it started with a mermaid, water, swimming, princess, animal party. After a lot of changing her mind, we finally settled on a princess dress up party! I’m looking forward to having several adorable little girls dress in the funnest garb ever…maybe I’ll have to dress up too! What mama doesn’t need a feather boa? I can’t wait to see my little lady sporting her new dress, really her first meant for dress up.  I’ve made her tutus, crazy hats, even capes, but this will be her first dress up dress, and it’s adorable. Man have things changed since I’ve been a little girl!

So far I have pin the crown on the princess, and I’m going to pick up a princess pinata, I was also thinking of making purses the girls can decorate with glitter glue…we’ll see how ambitious I am! I’d love some ideas! Off to play with my kiddo…I love being a mom!

Two Months….

Okay, so I’ve officially neglected my blog for way too long. I’m not going to pretend it didn’t happen! I’m afraid I too have been sucked into the wonderful world of facebook! We are getting settled into our new home, and loving it. Painting, wallpapering and frequent trips to Lows have been our time filler. We’re just taking it one room at a time!
Charis is continually growing. I hard to believe she’s still only two years old. She’s doing so much, and understanding so much! She started grasping phonics and is now sounding out words, and with some help, she’s reading the beginners pre-k reading books. I’m really liking this preschool stage…at least having only one of them! I’m sure a whole class full is way too much for me=-).
Now that the playroom is up and running (pictures are coming…promise) I’ve decided to put it to good use, and started to watch another little one. Actually it started today. She and Charis are currently napping, giving me the time to catch up on blogging. If the Lord opens up a door for another little one, that’s fine too. We’ll see what happens!
Now just to fill the spar bedrooms with siblings, and we’ll be set! Haha. All in God’s perfect timing! I just finished reading a really great book about adoption…I’ve actually read it twice. It’s called “The Strength of Mercy”. For those praying about adoption, pick one up! You can find it at allgodschildreninternational.org
Well, I’ll try and be better at this blogging thing. In the next week or two we should have some more projects done on the house to she pictures! TTFN

Yucky, cold, and white!

I’ve been neglecting my blog, I know. Life’s getting a little crazy with closing on the house (we close tomorrow… hopefully anyway), and Christmas (only two days away). One thing that’s going to be a bit of a challenge…all this snow.
Last year’s winter was horrible, so I naturally thought that this year would be light. Boy was I wrong. So now we are moving with nearly four feet of snow! At least it’s just across town, and we have lots of plastic to keep the carpet dry! I’m already praying for an early spring… starting today=-). Off to go pack, clean, bake, and do whatever else it is I need to do!

My crazy busy life…

Life as always is good…just a little on the busy side. At least it keeps me out of trouble. The newest thing filling my time is packing up the house…or at least thinking about it. After a what feels like years of living flexibly we finally bought a house (we’ll close at the end of the year). I’m thrilled at the thought of hanging up pictures again, and opening boxes that have been packet for years (It’ll probably be something we’ll through out, but at least it’s not sitting in a box in the garage!). So that’s our next adventure! Here’s a few fall pics I took of Charis that I forgot about until yesterday!

What the season is really about…or at least the way the world sees it!

The other day I was accomplishing my monthly errands, and they included a visit to Target. I thought it was no biggy…it was only a Tuesday. I was wrong. People running to and fro stuffing their carts full of whatever they could. Children screaming in the toy isle, “NO! I want these toys!” . The screaming never did stop, even when I was on the other side of the store. I suddenly remembered Charlie Brown wondering what in the world the holidays are all about cause it can’t be all this commercialism…yet the rest of the world is perfectly content with it being that way. It’s sad how easy it is to get sucked in that way, when that thing you wanted to get, but couldn’t afford is now 50% off!

Since having Charis, Zak and I decided that she gets one present and her stocking goodies, and even though it was hard for me to follow, I’m glad we established it. Are presents evil? NO. I just don’t want to forget what we are celebrating…the gift of salvation. Incidentally this year we were wanting to get a Christmas tree (it’s been about 4 years since we’ve had one (long story), and this year we thought Charis would appreciate one and would be able to refrain from pulling it down. The one problem is we might be moving soon, so to unpack Christmas decorations when I’m packing everything else up is kinda pointless. The solution… a Charlie Brown Christmas tree…literally! I’ll put up pictures later. Until then here’s a little reminder of the true reason we celebrate Christmas!

Thankful…

As I’m about to start cooking and cleaning like mad, I wanted to stop and think about all the beautiful things that God has blessed me with. Having a relationship with Jesus and salvation! He’s given an awesome husband who loves Him more than me! We’ve been given a daughter who’s fun and challenging as can be=-)! There are so many other things that He’s done and will continue to be do in my life that are worthy of thankfulness. I just sometimes forget to be thankful! So happy Thanksgiving! Life without Daddy…

It’s funny how much you don’t realize you need someone…until they’re gone that is. Zak and I don’t part much, but have done pretty well in the past. He hadn’t taken a trip without me since I was about eight months prego, that is until this week. I was up to the task of playing single parent. One thing I wasn’t expecting was a complete lack of sleep. Not from Charis mind you, but the lack of my hubby! I guess being married as long as we have does this to you. The answer to my problem (and no it’s not a good one)…grab the toddler and bring her in your bed. So instead of no sleep, I got very little (she’s a kicker). So not only was there only one parent around, but that one parent was a tired one (tired mommy=no patience). Overall, we survived and are so glad to have him back…and we’re also glad he had a great time! What I learned from this trip…is that life without him is just no fun!

She loves watching her movies, and knows most of her songs. She couldn’t wait to dress like Shirley! For those of you that missed seeing her at the Harvest party, here’s some pics of the lovely Shirley.
